After reports of a "raid" at one ofmining company Vale's offices in Sudbury on Thursday, a spokesperson thereconfirmedEnvironment Canada was on site.

AngieRobson said the government ministry was collecting information related toinfractions under the Fisheries Act, whichallegedly occurred in 2012.

"Vale is co-operating fully in providing the information required,"Robson stated in an email to CBC News Friday morning.

"As this matter is now under investigation, we are unable to comment further."

Environment Canada won't comment either.

But in a written statement received by the CBC Friday evening, it confirmedit sent enforcement officers, with support from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, toexecutea search warrant at Vale Canada Limited, in Copper Cliff.

The organization confirms the search warrant was part of an active Environment Canada investigation which commenced in November 2012.

Environment Canada says the investigation relates to alleged violations of the general prohibition in the Fisheries Act, which prohibits the deposit of substances that are deleterious to fish into water frequented by fish.
