Threat forces closure of Espanola High School building on Monday

The Espanola Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police are currently investigating a threat against Espanola High School.

As a result, Espanola High School, A.B. Ellis Public School, cole Secondaire Catholique Franco-Ouest, and The One Tot Stop Daycare will all be closed on Monday, Oct. 17.

The Espanola High School site houses all of the above-mentioned school.

Transportation to the schools has been cancelled as well.

Students and staff at cole Secondaire Catholique Franco-Ouest will be re-located to cole Saint-Joseph for the day, however, regular bus transportation to thosestudents will be provided.

"We take these threats seriously," said Rainbow District School Board director of education,NormBlaseg in a news release.

"As a result, we have implemented precautionary measures."

Classes are expected to resume on Tuesday.

Espanola police chief Steven Edwards says there are no other details about the investigation. But he says he is confident the community is safe and steps are being taken to bring this event to a conclusion.

The threat comes on the heels of a threat against a Chapleau school earlier this week.
