Explosion at Sudbury's First Nickel injures workers

Sudbury's First Nickel is now reporting four workers were injured in an explosion at its Lockerby Mine on Sunday.

Sudbury's First Nickel is now reporting four workers were injured in an explosion at its Lockerby Mine on Sunday.

Companypresident and CEO Thomas Boehlertfirst stated oneworker requiredmedical aid, but the injury wasnothing serious.

"As we do not run a shifton Sunday, we will be assessing the situation underground today," he wrote in an email to CBC News.

But Mine Mill Local598 spokespersonAnne-Marie MacInnisreportedfour people were injured in the explosion.

The VP of First Nickel's Sudbury operations, Vern Baker, later stated four workers were treated for minor injuries.

"There were no major injuries, and everyone on shift was able to go home whenthey left the mine," he stated in an email. "Four people were assessed by our on-site medical staff, but were OK."
