Fatal Hwy 69 crash: Magnetawan First Nation woman charged

West Parry Sound OPP say a woman from Magnetawan First Nation is facing charges following a fatal crash last month.

Parry Sound residentsAndrVeilleux, 72, and DoreenVeilleux, 71, diedafter a head-on crash on Highway 69, south ofPointeauBaril.

The crash happened after a pickup truck was trying to pass twotrucks pulling campers.

It hadto swerve to avoid an oncoming SUV, which was occupied by the Veilleuxs.

The SUV went into the other lane, and hit the pickuptruck head on.

The 34-year-old woman driving the pickup truckhas been charged with:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, causing death
  • 2 counts of causing death by criminal negligence
  • Criminal negligence causing bodily harm
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm

The accused was released and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice of Parry Sound on Sept.17, police said.
