Group of Seven pieces join Art Gallery of Sudbury

Its no secret that Sudbury and northeastern Ontario inspired the Group of Seven, and now a new exhibit featuring the work of those artists is officially on display at the Art Gallery of Sudbury.

Seven original paintings by or connected to the Group of Seven are now a permanent part of the art gallery collection.

The donations were from the families of the artists.

This really is a significant gift and is part of the Canadian Legacy, Karen Tait-Peacock, director of the Art Gallery of Sudbury said.

Its part of our Canadian heritage.

Featured in the collection are five oil paintings by Franklin Carmichael, an Arthur Lismer oil, and a portrait of Carmichael by Fred S. Haines.

Being able to bring these into the Art Gallery of Sudbury's permanent collection is really a significant piece to our history as a community and as a region, Tait-Peacock said.

FranklinCarmichael really did love this region and he did much artwork within this region.
