Multiple deaths reported in fiery Highway 69 crash

Provincial police are investigating a crash that killed multiple people on Highway 69 yesterday.

OPP still investigating yesterdays crash south of Point au Baril

Firefighters and OPP were on-scene at a two vehicle crash late Tuesday afternoon. OPP say there were "multiple" fatalities, and that the passenger vehicle involved was "engulfed in flames." (OPP/@OPP_NER)

Ontario Provincial Police are still investigating a crash that killed multiple people on Highway 69 yesterday.

OPP said a northboundSUVcrossedthe centre line and collided with asouthbound tractor trailer around 4:00 p.m.

The crash closed the highway south of Point au Baril in Shawanaga First Nation for about eight hours.

"Unfortunately, after the impact, the car became engulfed in flames," said OPP Sgt.Carlo Berardi. "We know that there's multiple victims, we're just determining the number of victims at this time."

The highway reopened around midnight.

Traffic was backed-up near the site of a fatal two-vehicle crash south of Point au Baril on Tuesday. That section of Hwy. 69 is not yet four-laned. (OPP/@OPP_NER)
