Ontario Provincial Police believe a now-deceased man was connected to two double homicides in Kirkland Lake, Ont.,last summer, and were prepared to laycharges in two of the deaths.

On July 30, 2023, paramedics responded to a medical call at a residence on Woods Street and found Gabriel Marecki, 49, and Amanda Lachapelle, 37.

Det. Insp. Ray St. Pierre said they died of gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at hospital.

On Aug.8, 2023, police went to a residence in Kirkpatrick Street for a well-being check and found the bodies of Lea Thompson, 33, and Kyle Robertson, 37.

Det. Insp. Tom McVey said they died as a result of injuries sustained in an assault two days prior.

Now, OPP say they've linked the four homicides to Kirkland Lake man Martyn Rosko, 38, who has since died.

McVey said Rosko was arrested for an unrelated threatcomplainton the evening of Aug.6.

St. Pierre and McVeysay although they were investigating different incidents, they shared information andsettled on Rosko as a suspect early on in connection with all four deaths.

The investigators say Rosko knew the victims of the July 30homicide,Marecki and Lachapelle, although would not say how well. And Rosko had been in a relationship with Lea Thompson, although they wouldn't speculate about what motivated the violence that lead to the deaths.

"If he were alive today,MartynRoskowould be charged with the first-degree murder of LeaThompson and the second-degree murder of Kyle Robertson," said McVey. "And theevidence in support of thatis compelling. And we do have the support of the Crown attorney's office that if hewere alive, he would be prosecuted for those offences."

Both investigators say the case is complex and they continue to investigate.

"I'mthankful we have been able to release the name of the individual who we believe is responsible," said McVey.

"At the same time, though, we recognize that, you know, four lives have been lost here and there's still a lot of questions that we haven't been able to answer for the families."
