The public is being asked to avoid a wooded area in Chelmsford in Greater Sudbury, Ont. after human remains were found.

On Sunday at about5:30 p.m. ET, police were called to the area of Marion Street after a community member found human skeletal remains.

Police said that over the next few days, officers will be in a remotewooded area near Marion Street to investigate.

"The identity of the deceased, the length of time the remains have been in the wooded area and the circumstances of the death have yet to be determined," police said in a news release.

Police will be working with the coroner's office and the Centre of Forensic Science on the investigation, and an update will be provided once officers have left the area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
