A 19-year-old Sudbury man who has been charged in connection with a car accident that seriously injured two women last month has been identified.

Hunter Currie was represented by his lawyer in court on Wednesday.

He is facing eight charges, including driving impaired by drug, two counts each of criminal negligence causing bodily harm and dangerous driving.

Currie has not yet entered a plea but has some court dates set for next month.

Sudbury Police allege Currie became distracted while driving on Municipal Road 80 near McCrea Hightson November 22.

Police said his Ford Explorer crossed into the on-coming lane, striking a Honda Prelude with two women inside. Both women had to be extricated from the car by the fire department and taken to hospital.

The collision occurred around 4:15 p.m. and closed the road for several hours.
