"[McElhaney was appointed because] of everything she's done over the last several years, and I'm happy for the research institute," said hospital CEO Denis Roy.

McElhaneybrings expertise in helping aging First Nations, Inuit andMetispeople, Roy said.

Her appointment also raises Sudbury's profile in the health research field.

"The fact that people know that she's been selected for such a board means that people or potential recruits, that probably would not have even thought of coming to Sudbury, may now take a closer look at Sudbury," Roy said.
