On the heels of a cabinet retreat in Halifax where Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reaffirmed his plan to stay on as leader of the party and did not announce any shuffling of cabinet ministers, the prime minister was in Sault Ste Marie, Ont., on Thursday.

He visited with workers at a local transit garage to talk about federal investment in public transit.

His visit to Sault Ste. Marie is continuing on Friday, with a paddling excursion in the morning at Thrive Tours, an indigenous-led tour company.

Sault Ste. Marie is one of the ridings in the north that some political analysts say could be in play in the next federal election.

Terry Sheehan has held the seat for the Liberals since 2015, the year Trudeau became prime minister.

Trudeau made a surprise visit to Sudbury earlier in the month, where Ontario caucus of federal Liberal MPs held a meeting.
