Ministry of Labour probes Vale smelter fatality in Sudbury

The Ministry of Labour continues to investigate at Vale's Copper Cliff Smelter after Sunday's fatal workplace incident.

The Ministry of Labour continues to investigate at Vale's Copper Cliff Smelter after Sunday's fatal workplace incident.

Paul Rochette, 36, was killed and another man, 28, was injured at the smelter site located near Sudbury, Ont.

The ministry reports the inspector has requested a long list of documentation, including training records, the daily shift line up, health and safety meeting minutes and copies of workplace inspections.

He's also requested maintenance records, diagrams of the machine and the copy of an organizational chart.The inspector also requestedVale's protection service personnel accident report and notes.

The mining company has until Friday to comply.
