Stay off Moose River during freeze up: Police

Police in Moosonee are warning residents to stay off the Moose River during freeze up. The river is in the process of freezing and there are large chunks of ice floating down the river into James Bay. Police say the cold water and the large ice chunks make boating on the river extremely dangerous.

Residents of the town of Moosonee and the town of Moose Factory are warned to stay off the Moose River during 'freeze up.'

That warning comes fromMoosoneeOPP and the Nishnawbe Aski Police.

Police say the river is in the process of freezing and there are large chunks of ice floating down the river into James Bay.

The cold water and the large ice chunks make boating on the river extremely dangerous.

Residents are asked to use helicopter services for crossing the river while it's in the process of freezing.

Police aren't able to estimate how long it will take for the river to accommodate vehicles, due to an unseasonably warm fall.
