High marks for Sudbury, Ont. French-language college

Report cards have been handed out to Ontario's 24 colleges and one French-language school in Sudbury has taken top marks in several categories.

Collge Boral scored the top ranking in three out of five categories in Colleges Ontario's annual key performance indicator survey, including graduate satisfaction, student satisfaction and graduation rate.

"If we say, if our students are satisfied, chances are that our graduates will be satisfied [and] if our graduates are satisfied it means they graduated and chances are that the employers that hire those students will be satisfied," said college president Daniel Giroux.

"So what we've really focused on for the last ten years is student satisfaction and that is one of the key components for us."

Collge Boral is one of two French-language colleges in the province, along with La Cit collgiale in Ottawa. The training students receive in French is a key reason why the school scores high on the indicator survey, Giroux said.

"Employers, where we're looking now at multiple industries whether it be mining, whether it be forestry, whether it be in any industry, they're working in multiple provinces, multiple countries," he said.

"So the bilingualism becomes a huge asset for those graduates."

Elsewhere around the northeast, Cambrian College in Sudbury and Canadore College in North Bay both had above-average results for student and graduate satisfaction.

Northern College in Timmins garnered above average results in graduation employment rates.
