OPP finally moves on with transit ticket investigation

Almost a year after they started, Ontario Provincial Police investigators continue to look into how hundreds of thousands of dollars went missing from Sudbury city hall.

A private company contracted to sell bus tickets didn't give the city its share of the proceeds.

City council requested that everyone involved, including city staff, be investigated by police.

Greater Sudbury Police Chief Frank Elsner has been working with the OPP on this case.

He says the investigation was delayed when all the officers involved were pulled off to work on the investigation into financial problems at the Ornge air ambulance service.

"They understand that this is a priority for our community. They're very clear about that," Elsner said. "I've asked them to do whatever they can to expedite this. As everyone knows, we really need to get some closure on this."

Elsner said provincial police investigators are expected to be in Sudbury in the next few days to do more interviews related to the missing transit money.
