Province announces $3.5M for Sudbury mining technology companies

Six mining equipment and technology companies will receive an injection of cash from the provincial government, Northern Development and Mines Minister Michael Gravelle announced today.

Six mining equipment and technology companies will receive an injection of cash from the provincial government, Northern Development and Mines MinisterMichael Gravelle announced today in Sudbury.

The investment will be made through Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, and will support six local projects.

Boart Longyear Canada will be receiving the biggest boost, with $1.37 million to develop technology for mineral exploration rigs with the potential to improve safety for miners.

Hardrock Mining Products also received $1 million to relocate, modernize and expand its Sudbury operation to increase productivity.

"Ontario's renewed Mineral Development Strategy understands that a competitive, innovative and safe mining sector is essential to positioning our province as the global leader in sustainable mineral development and production," said Gravelle,

"Our government's investments through the NOHFC will ensure Ontario continues to be the place that the world's industry turns to for innovations in mining technology."
