SalDan gets partial green light for hilltop development

A developer who some blame for flooding a downtown Sudbury neighbourhood will continue to build the Sunrise Ridge subdivision.

SalDan Developments was granted a three-year extension to build the hilltopunits at last night's city planning meeting.

The developer got the go-ahead from the city on the condition that it agrees topay for a feasibility study to assess whether or not a wall will stopfutureflooding to neighbourhoods below. The study must be completed before any further development continues.

Sam Biasucci, the owner of SalDan Developments, saidthe company will also pay forhalf the cost of a flood wallifthe study deems thatoneisrequired even though heopposes the idea.

"As a matter of fact, I really don't agree to it," Biasucci said. "I think, at the end of the day, when it's actually looked at, there's no need for it."

CurrentlySalDan only has approval to proceed on 11 lots. The original plans called for the development of 77 lots.
