He's not out of the gates yet, but aformer Sudbury mayor says he absolutely intends to run for the top spot in the2014 municipal election.

John Rodriguez was mayor of Greater Sudbury from 2006-2010. He was preceded by David Courtemanche and succeeded by Marianne Matichuk. Rodriguez was also MP for Nickel Belt from 1972-1980 and from 1984-1993. (CBC)

In an interview with Radio-Canada this week, John Rodriguez said the citys top job is one that is not finished for him. He held the post before the current mayor, Marianne Matichuk, won the mayors race in the 2010 election.

Matichuk received 25,042 votes (46 per cent) and Rodriguez received 19,819 (36 per cent).

Rodriguez remarked that, when he was mayor, he and city councillors worked as a team.

He also noted council needs to have a vision for the community and added that, right now, a vision doesnt exist.
