Sudbury Transit driver assaulted

A Sudbury bus driver was assaulted last night, according to Greater Sudbury Police.

The Sudbury Transit driver who was attacked by a passenger last night has been released from the hospital.

Police said on Sunday night around midnight,a 34-year-old Sudbury man jumped out of a moving taxi on Ramsey Lake Road and ran down the street before boarding a city bus.

Once inside, the man attacked the bus driver with a knife, cutting his forearm and neck.

Sudbury police officers were in the area at the time, and arrived shortly after the attack began. They were able to subdue the man, who was still wielding the knife and wrestling with the driver.

Police said in a statement that the man has been arrested and charged with

  • Aggravated assault
  • Possession of a schedule II substance
  • Resist peace officer
  • Failure to comply with probation order (x4)
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court today.
