Greater Sudbury bus catches fire, no injuries

A city bus caught fire in downtown Sudbury, this morning, just a few blocks from the city's transit terminal.

City says 10 passengers on board the bus when the fire broke out

A city bus caught fire in downtown Sudburythis morning, just a few blocks from the city's transit terminal.

The blackened, smoking bus was stopped by the driver on Cedar Street,just off of the Kingsway.

Capt. Peter Ferguson withGreater Sudbury Fire Services saidfirefightersen route from another call noticed the smoke and stopped at the scene.

"I don't know what started [it],but the bus was on fire when we got here. It looked like the engine compartment. That's all we know right now," he said.

Most of the damage appearedto be in the rear part of the bus where the engine is located.

CBC has learned from the citythat there were tenpassengers on board at the time, but the driver evacuated them.

There are no injuries reported.

A city claims adjuster at the scene told CBC News that it's still too early to tell what started the fire,butvehicle was to be towed back to the transit garage for a more thorough investigation into the cause.

Just five months ago, another Greater Sudbury transit bus caught fire in Capreol.
