Cinfest Sudbury gears up, courts #GenYZ with new film category

Cinfest Sudbury is ramping-up to its annual fall film festival and organizers promise something for everyone.

Cinfest Sudburyis ramping-up to its annual fall film festival and organizers promise something for everyone.

"[We have] films thatcover the whole world,"said PatrickO'Hearn, Managing Director ofCinfest."We have a wonderful film fromJapan, great films from Germany, some wonderfulfilms from France, and we're stillcelebrating films that are madein our backyardwithAntibirth."

With an eye to the future of thefestival, Cinfest alsohas anew filmcategorycalled "GenYZ", which aims toappeal to younger audiences.

"People who maybe have never tried out a festival experience before, [might]realize there is something for them," said O'Hearn.

The opening night gala movieis Maudie, a romantic drama based on a true story. It'sdirected by Aisling Walsh andstarsEthan Hawke, Sally Hawkins and Kari Matchett.

Also to be screened at the festival: Antibirth, which was shot in Sudbury and starsNatasha Lyonne, Chlo Sevigny, Mark Webber andMeg Tilly. It wasproduced byHideaway Picturesbased in Sudbury.

Cinefest held a news conference to get some buzz going about Sudbury's International Film Festival. We spoke with Patrick O'Hearn, Managing Director of Cinefest to talk a bit about this year's lineup.
