Housing starts in Sudbury may be on par so far this year with last year's numbers, but one analyst says people in Sudbury appear to be moving away from single-detached homes.

Housing starts in Sudbury may be on par this year with last year's numbers, butone analyst says people in Sudbury appear to be moving away from single-detached homes.

Canadian Mortage and Housing Corporation market forecaster Warren Philp said more people are buying condos or semi-detached homes.

Philp said the growth in the average 2012 home prices in Sudbury may have something to do with that.

"On the resale side, sales were off just slightly from 2011 in 2012," he said. "Prices still did rise nearly five per cent on average in Sudbury."

The average price of a home in Sudbury in 2011 was $240,000, Philp added.
