A park in Sudbury's south end is now much larger, thanks to a donation from a lifelong Sudbury resident.

Lily Fielding has donated 300 acres of land to the city, making Kivi Park thelargest park in the city. The donation provides the public access to crown land leading to three lakes: Crowley Lake, Linton Lake and Camp Lake. It also provides a city connection to Killarney Provincial Park.

I wanted to do something special in my100thyear,to give back to the community that has given so much to me.- Lily Fielding

According to the city, Fielding is donating the park in memory of her parents Susanna and John Kivi, as well as other Finnish immigrants who settled in the area.

"I grew up and went to school here, married my husband Cliff at the Voima Hall and together we raised our children in the community," she said.

"I wanted to do something special in my 100th year, to give back to the community that has given so much to me."

The city said the expansion of the park will not only increase the number of available sports fields in the city, but will also lead to the creation of additional recreational activities that will benefit the entire community. It added over time, the park will become a year-round destination for outdoor adventure and sport tourism.
