Working in the medical field can be challenging at times, but a group of Sudbury nurses recently had the experience of working following a natural disaster.

Wanda Deloye, along with her family and fourother nurses, had travelled to Nepal recently to work in hospitals and teach English.

The group had planned a stop in India, and while there, an earthquake hit Nepal.

Eventually, they made their way to Nepal to help.

Deloye said once they got there, the hospital was three times over capacity, and treating patients was difficult given the conditions.

"We were using rooms that were not even equipped properly for surgeries," she said.

"People would wake up 10 [or] 15 times during their surgery because there was no drip to manage how much aesthetic they were getting to keep them asleep."

Deloye said the people she met and cared for were tough, and very thankful to have help.
