Sudbury police find Wahnapitae snowmobiler passed out by his sled

Sudbury police say a suspected snowmobile crash in Wahnapitae on Tuesday night didn't need an ambulance as first thought the situation called for a breathalyzer.

Sudburypolice receiveda call about an apparent snowmobile crash onHighway 537 inWahnapitaeTuesday night.

According to a press release, a caller reported that they "happened upon aflipped over snowmobile and a male lying in the snow beside it."

But,police said, while officers and emergency workers were en route, the driver got back on to the machine and left the scene.

A short time later, a snow plow driver in the area flagged down the responding police officer, and pointed toa man on his back in the snow beside a stopped snowmobile.

Police saidit was the same machine as the one reported before.

According to police, the man had not been in a collision as originally thought, but had instead "toppled" off of his machine into the snow, where he passed out.

Police saidthe man, 38, "provided breath samples in excess of threetimes the legal limit. He was also found to be in possession ofa small quantity of a substance believed to bemarijuana."

The man is being held pending a bail hearing.
