Sudbury police still searching for new offices

The Greater Sudbury police department is giving up on plans to add on to its headquarters and is now looking for other options.

The Greater Sudbury police department is giving up on plans to add on to its headquarters and is now looking for other options.

Plans to expand the downtown station ballooned to $3 million because Junction Creek runs underneath Tom Davies Square.

Instead, Chief Frank Elsner said the police force is looking at moving its offices to other city buildings. He says the vision is to have all uniform officers on the main floor, ready to interact with the public.

"From an efficiency and a workflow perspective it worked very, very well for us and it would open some space within the rest of the facility so we can get people out of broom closets and things like that, he said.

An architectural firm has been hired for $5,200 to help find solutions to the space crunch facing Sudbury police.
