Sudbury's farmers' market gets new hours

Today is the first day of the season for Sudbury's farmers' market and the second year that The Market will beheld in the parking lot outside of the CP/Via Rail building in the city's downtown.

This year there have been some changes at The Market, including shorter hours.

Eric Blondin of Les JardinsBlondin said the shorter hours are more in line with other farmers markets in the region and will be better for the vendors because they are expected to stay until closing time.

The new hours are Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Blondin said some of the produce to expect at The Market this time of year is lettuce, scallions, green onions, radishes and kale. He notedsome farmers may have peas.

The Market will be open rain or shine every Saturday and Sunday until October 26.To date, 22 vendors have registered.

Future phases of The Market will be redesigned as part of the Elgin Greenway, a green pedestrian and active transportation corridor that will connect the Laurentian University School of Architecture, The Market, and the rest of downtown with Bell Park and the Junction Creek Waterway Park, city officials have said.
