Sudbury Theatre Centre launching dramatic arts academy

If you've ever had an itch to hone your stage talents, the Sudbury Theatre Centre might be able to help you scratch that theatre bug.

The playhouseis launching the STC Academy, a venture artistic directorCaleb Marshall describes asa more "comprehensive" set of theatricalclasses and programs for all ages and aspirations.

New offerings at the STC will include intensiveadultworkshops thatseem to therun the gamut of thespian pursuits.

"They range from everything from stage combat, to acting, musical dance, singing,playwriting,comedy, but also some of the technical arts like lighting [and]sound design,"said Marshall.

Also in the program for the new academy are a series of impressive guest artists who will work with aspiring actors and writers.

"I'll be teaching some of the classes, and Matthew Heiti our resident playwright... but also Norm Foster, Canada's most-produced playwrightwill do a master class on creating comedy characters with heart."

Marshall said the goals of the academy are both simple and somewhat morecomplex.

"[Developing] local talent is really important to me," he said. "[But] we're also trying to... raise the next generation of ... theatre audience."
