Sudbury may not have a reputation for high culture, but the city is hostingthe world premiere of an opera for children.

"Opera is a wonderful art form," said author and composer Jason Noble.

"[It's] a meeting place of several art forms," such as storytelling, poetry, music and visual art in the form of costume and sets. "I would liken it to something along the lines of a Disney media.I don't think what we're doing is very different."[IMAGE]

The operatic adaptation of Noble's children's book, "The Stupendous Adventure of Gregory Green," tells the story of aboy whosefavourite woodland is threatened by three nasty trolls.

"All these things come together in a live storytelling before your eyes," he said.

Noble, who is based in Montreal, has performed in Sudburyin the past and has written a piece for the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra.

"I love the people there. I love the ambience there," Noble said, calling Sudbury, "a wonderful place to start this new project."

The Ontario opera company Opera2Go is staging the production Feb.21 at College Boreal in Sudbury and on Feb. 22 at Wolf Performance Hall in London, Ontario. Tickets are available online here.
