Sudbury water tower set to come down

One of Sudbury's iconic green water towers is expected to come down this fall.

Priestly Demolition of Aurorahas won the contract to dismantle the water tower near the intersection of Elm and Regent Streets.

The city of Greater Sudbury will pay the company $191,000 to demolish the tower. City officials say the contractor will also get to sell the metal for scrap.

The tower was built more than 50 years ago, but has sat empty and rusting for the past decade.

Once the structure is removed, the city plans to turn that spot into a park.
