There are 147 new permanent employees now on the job at the Canada Revenue Agency taxation centre in Sudbury, Ont. Those workers are part of the 650 new positions announced in the fall. It's the busy season at the tax data centre in Sudbury, Ont.where some 2,000workers are processing freshly filed tax forms.

The Canada Revenue Agency says that 147 permanent workers have been hired, along with 250 contract or term employees, but many of those are the regular seasonal employees hired every spring to process tax forms.

Those new permanent employees make up part of the 650 new positions announced in the fall.

Cosimo Crupi from the Union for Taxation Employees says the federal government won't tell them how many of the positionsare full-time or the make-up of the positions still to be filled.

"It is frustrating because at the end of the day, you know, had we been consulted, we could have given our input. I would love to give you numbers right now, but I don't have those numbers for you," says Crupi. the regional vice-president for the union.

Crupi says the new jobs are expected to come to Sudbury over the next two years, while operations are shut down at other taxation centres.

"We're still trying to get an HR analysis from the employer, just to kind of give us a basis," says Crupi.

"What's this model going to look like at the end of the day? How many more full-time employees are we going to be getting in Sudbury?"

The changes will definitely mean growth for the Sudbury tax centre.

Crupisays a new evening shift will beadded and some 60 new job categories made available.
