Sudbury MPP Glenn Thibeault rumoured for Ontario cabinet

Sudbury MPP Glenn Thibeault says rumours that he will be appointed to the premier's executive council are just that - rumours.

The Toronto Star reported Wednesday that Premier Kathleen Wynne is planning a major cabinet shuffle after the legislature breaks for the summer.

The report cites sources who suggest Thibeault will be joining cabinet.

But Thibeault says he can't confirm that.

"If that honour comes my way I'm more than happy to serve," says Thibeault, "but it is speculation and that's all it is right now."

Thibeault served as Sudbury's NDP MP for seven years, before defecting to the Ontario Liberals to run in the 2015 Sudbury byelection.

There were rumours at that time that Thibeault had been promised a cabinet job for helping the Liberals re-capture the Sudbury riding, but he has consistently denied that.

The byelection scandal, in which key Liberal officials were accused of bribing former Sudbury candidate Andrew Olivier to not run, has been followed Thibeault to Queen's Park and has been popular fodder for opposition members.
