Three dead after Sudbury area accidents, collisions

Three men have been killed in weekend mishaps.

Three men have been killed in weekend mishaps.

Two occurred after a snowmobile collided with a pedestrian near Massey Friday night.OPP in Espanolareporta snowmobile travelling at a high rate of speed on the shoulder of Lee Valley Road, in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township, hit and killed a pedestrian about 8:15 p.m.

The man was walking eastbound on the south shoulder of the road.A 43-year-old manfrom Webbwood, Ont., was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 58-year-oldsnowmobiler, from Massey, Ont.,was transported to Espanola General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of an OPP Collision Reconstruction Investigator and an OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator.

Excavator rolls over

On Saturday afternoon a 51-year-old man operating an excavator in Valley East was killed.

Greater Sudbury Police say the excavator was was being operated on a bush trail onprivate property, north of Dominion Drive, when it flipped over in a swampy area. The driverwas located by an employee who went to check on him and alerted emergency services. Police,Fire and EMS arrived on scene to extricate the driver,but were unable to revive him.

The Ministry ofLabour was notified and an investigator was sent to the scene. Officers from the Sudburypolice's Criminal Investigation Division also attended the scene.

None of the names of the deceased are being released at this time.
