Prime Minister Justin Trudeau takes paddling trip during visit to Sault Ste. Marie

The prime minister continued his visit to Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., on Friday, and took a short spin in a canoe provided by Thrive Tours, an Indigenous-run tour company based in the northern Ontario city.

Justin Trudeau was accompanied by Batchewana First Nation Chief Mark McCoy and former chief Dean Sayers.

Local MP Terry Sheehan and tour company co-owners Brad Robinson and Amanda Cora were also seen paddling canoes behind Trudeau.

Later in the day, the prime minister was scheduled to visit Algoma Steel.

Thursday, he met with local politicians and workers at the local transit garage, and talked about federal investments in public transit as well as ridership levels.

Sault Ste. Marie is one of the ridings in the north that some political analysts say could be in play in the next federal election.

Terry Sheehan has held the seat for the Liberals since 2015, the year Trudeau became prime minister.
