Vale hopes new 'Homesafe' message will resonate with Sudbury workers

A Vale spokesperson says the death of an employee at the Copper Cliff Smelter last year spurred the company to renew its internal safety program.

The new program is called HOMESAFE, and itre-inforces the idea that there are families connected to each worker.

Angie Robson said the old motto "safe production" didn't seem to be reaching employees.

"The idea was that a lot of the tools and the protocols underneath 'safe production' were working well, but that the name itself wasn't resonating," she said.

Robson notedthe campaign was created with employee input, with the aim to reduce accidents and send a message.

"[We want] to ensure that our employees know that we listened and heard what they had to say and that was reflected in the new brand and the products that went along with it," she said.

A new video is just one part of a number of safety messages and new tools developed for the minesin an effort to bring down the number of accidents.
