Winter storm to blast northeastern Ontario Tuesday night

Northeastern Ontario is in for a wintry blast.

Environment Canada says a winter storm developing over the United States' central plains region is expected to start trackingnortheastward, and deliver a snowy wallop starting Tuesday night.

"At this time, estimated snow accumulations of 10 to 15 centimetres by the end of Wednesday are possible," the weather authority said on Monday.

"Areas along the north shore of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay to the Quebec border could see the snow mixed at times with ice pellets along with the risk of freezing rain. A brief changeover to rain is also likely for North Bay on Wednesday."

The storm could last into Wednesday, and Environment Canada warned today that blowing snow and high winds could impact visibility on area highways andtravel plans.
