Bears trap hunter in tree stand near Dryden

A Dryden-area hunter is safe after being surrounded by a group of bears on the weekend.

A hunter in theDryden area is safe after being surrounded by a group of bears on the weekend.

Dryden OPP officerswere called late Saturday nightby acamp ownerwho said a bow hunter had left for a tree stand at 2:30p.m. and had not returned.

When the owner went to check on the hunter, he found there werethree adult bears and fourcubssurrounding the stand, so the hunter couldn't get out of the tree.

When police arrived at a nearby landing, the camp owner took them to the wooded area where the bears and hunter were located.

Eventually thehunter was able to leave the tree safely.

Policesay no shots were fired and no injuries were reported.
