Brain injury survivor creates innovative treatment

A Thunder Bay woman has not only recovered from a brain injury she's now carrying out leading edge research in the field.

Melissa Felteau has been invited to speak about her work at an International brain injury conference in Scotland next week.

Felteau is part of a local team, whichhasdeveloped a psychological therapy to help patients with brain injuries deal with depression.

She said herown personal experiencehas motivated her research.

"[I] knew from the inside out what a struggle it was to really live with a different kind of brain," Felteau said. "I wanted to see if we could make something happen for other people and we have."

Felteau said the treatment she helped develop is the first of its kind in the world and that treatment will be showcased at the World Congress on Brain Injury in Edinburgh next week.
