Cat declawing petition heard at Queen's Park

An animal activist in Dryden says she wants to see legislation at Queen's Park that bans declawing cats in Ontario.

An animal activist in Dryden says she wants to see legislation at Queen's Park that bans declawing cats in Ontario.

Camille Cox says declawing not only removes the claws, but also a significant part of the bone.

"There's just so many cats out there that are being declawed, and it cruel, it's painful to them," she said.

"Why put a cat through that would you like it if all your fingers were cut off?"

Cox says declawing can cause many long-term health and behavioural problems in cats.

Her petition supporting a ban was presented to the legislature Tuesday by Sarah Campbell, MPP for Kenora-Rainy River.
