The City of Thunder Bay is assessing the damage aftera vehiclecollided with the guardrail on the Central Avenue bridge on Sunday evening.

Police, firefightersand paramedics were called to the scene shortly before 7 p.m.and said it was a single-vehicle collision.

The vehicle could be seen up on the sidewalk on the north side of the bridge which runs between Fort William Road and Maureen Streetwithits front end up against the guardrail, which was damaged and pushed out.

No further details have been provided.

Ryan Love, maintenance supervisor with the city's roads department, said engineers were on the scene Monday to assess the damage, but a timeline for repairs wasn't yet available.

"Without getting the information, the recommendations and report from the engineers, it's too early to say how long or the extent of the damage," he said.

Police said no injuries were reported.

The bridge remains open to traffic, and Love said the city will temporarily block off the damaged section to increase safety for people using the sidewalk until repairs are made.
