Court delays teen manslaughter sentencing

Two teenaged girls will have to wait until the end of the month before being sentenced for manslaughter.

Two teenaged girls will have to wait until the end of the month before being sentenced for manslaughter.

Defence lawyers told Justice Dianne Pettit Baig in a Thunder Bay courtTuesday morning they did not receive pre-sentence reports and other documents in time to read through them with their clients and parents.

The Crown noted time must also be allotted for the parents of the victim to read impact statements to the court.

The two girls pleaded guilty in May in connection with the death of another girl near a County Park recreation trail two years ago.

When the incident occurred, the defendants were 14 and 15 years old.

The victim was 16.

Sentencing is now scheduled for July 31.
