CP train derails, oil tank car leaking

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada deployed a team of investigators after a train derailment in the White River, Ont.area causeda tank car carryingoil to leak some of its cargo.

The accident happened just before 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

The TSBreported 22 cars on a Canadian Pacific freight train left the track.

It was not immediately clear how much oil had been spilled.

The TSBsaid in a news release the ruptured car was leaking crude oil.An investigation team from Toronto wasen route to the accident site.The Ontario environment ministryalso sent an investigator to the scene.

White River Mayor Angelo Bazzoni told CBC News the derailment location isabout ten kilometers west of the community, and poses no danger to White River."The area that the wreck is in, there's no waterways or anything that would bring any immediate danger to any drinking water or anything in the community," he said.

A spokesperson for Canadian Pacific was not immediately available for comment.

The TSB is an independent agency that investigates marine, pipeline, railway and aviation transportation occurrences. Its sole aim is the advancement of transportation safety. It is not the function of the Board to assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability.
