Delaine Copenace search: Residents urged to search backyards in Kenora, Ont.

Any bit of information, no matter how small, could help in the search formissing Kenora, Ont.,teen Delaine Copenace, says the Canadian Centre for Child Protection.

Copenace, 16, was last seen in downtown Kenora around 6 p.monSaturday Feb. 27, according to police.

The Centre for Child Protection is urging Kenora residents to check their yards, property and outbuildings and report anything suspicious to police.

Copenace's mother,Anida Fisher, describes her daughter as a 'homebody' and her family is incredibly concerned for her safety, according to a release from the agency.

More than 100 volunteers have turned out to take part in a community search for Delaine, said Amanda Freeman, who is coordinating it.

Freeman said she works with Delaine's mother and was compelled to take action as soon as she heard the teen had disappeared.

"It'sdefinitely a hard thing to do," Freeman said of the emotional toll the search takes. "But if your child was missing you'd want everything to be done, so I'm here as support for the family.

"I'm just doing what I feel I should do," she added. "I just want Delaine to be found, that's it, I want her to be found."

The search headquarters movedto Knox United Church in Kenora on Thursday.

Delaine Copenace is described as havinga larger build, withbrown eyes and long black hair.

She was last seen wearingblack Etnie skater-type shoes, a black zippered sweater, a "bullet for my valentine" T-shirt and black jeans with zippered pockets.
