An emaciated and injured dog found last week in a Thunder Bay apartment building has died.

The SPCA says the animal succumbed to its injuries on Sunday during emergency surgery by a local veterinarian.

Clancy Martin, the northern Ontario regional inspector for the SPCA, saidthe vet was concerned about the pain the dog was suffering.

"On Sunday, Jan.26,the dog known as Eddie went in for surgery to correct issues," said Martin.

"Due to complications not so much with the surgery, but the state that Eddie was in as well as the body condition ...Eddie passed away during surgery."

Martin said the investigation into this case continues.

Tuesday afternoon, Thunder Bay police identified the two people charged with cruelty to animals in connection with this case.

They are 31-year-old Joshua Michael Mynott, and 21-year-old Arielle Angela Ritch.
