The countdown is on...

Hip Fans waiting to see the band's 'National Celebration'concert will have their chance on August 20.

The City of Thunder Bay, the Live on the Waterfront concert series, and CBC Thunder Bay are teaming up to broadcast the show live, at Marina Park, on the big screen.

"We're excited to have this event," said Ash Young, the city's events supervisor. "It's an historical moment for Canada, and something we've got to jump on, and we're pumped about it."

The band may not be making a stop in person, but the Hip are coming to Thunder Bay on the big screen! (City of Thunder Bay)

The free show will be set up much like Thunder Bay's regular summer movie nights in the park, he said, but with one big difference. A special "high-end" projector is being brought in from Winnipeg to broadcast the Hip show in the best possible quality, even before sunset.

The show is expected to draw thousands to the waterfront, said Ash, who estimated that upwards of 4,000 people will attend.

"This is going to be a big day for the city, and the region," said CBC Thunder Bay executive producer Michael Dick. "The Tragically Hip are about as Canadian as you get, and people in Thunder Bay often miss these big concerts, but I think this is a great way to bring the concert to Thunder Bay."
