Thunder Bay's new top finance officer will be settling into her role just as city council gets set to deliberate the 2017 municipal budget.

The City of Thunder Bay announced that Linda Evans has been named the new city treasurer and general manager of corporate services and long term care. She officially starts her job Jan. 16, 2017.

"My role, for the first few months, definitely will be the 2017 budget, focussing on that as well as getting up to speed on the day-to-day operations," she told CBC News.

The proposed 2017 budget is scheduled to be made available to the public on January 23. Councillors are slated to begin deliberations in February.

Rob Colquhoun, the city's director of revenue, has been acting in Evans's position over the past year, and both Evans and city manager Norm Gale said he will help with the transition.

"I'm really excited about this opportunity, about joining the city's leadership team, I'm looking forward to working with the leadership team and the councillors," Evans said.

Prior to joining city hall, Evans a chartered professional accountant worked for the provincial government in a finance and administrative managerial role for about two decades, in addition to experience working for a number of federal and provincial departments.
