Matt Murray celebrates Stanley Cup with Thunder Bay fans

Thunder Bay's newest Stanley Cup champion is sharing his victory with his hometown this week.

GoaltenderMatt Murray, whose Pittsburgh Penguins won the Stanley Cup at the end of the last NHL season, will have the fabled trophy with him during a public celebration slated for today at Intercity Shopping Centre.

Tuesday's event comes on the heels of the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame's raising of the Pittsburgh Penguins flag on Monday to commemorate Murray's season.

"The biggest thing for me is just sharing it with the people of the city," Murray said Monday. "I know that the Cup is a pretty big thing, especially in a town like this, so I'm excited to see peoples' reactions when they get to see it."

Murray said the Stanley Cup is due to arrive in Thunder Bay at about 10:30 a.m, and he has it until about midnight.

After the Intercity event, he'll be taking the Cup to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre to visit with some youth.

After that, Murray willtake the Cupwith him for a private party with friends and family.

"It's a lot to pack in in one day, but it should be a lot of fun," Murray said. "I have a lot of family who actually came in from out of town just for this day, so I'm excited to share it with them, with my good friends that I grew up with, and another big one is my coaches, too."

"There are so many people that I want to share this with, and this is the perfect day to do so."
