City councillors in Thunder Bay will start to go through the 2016 municipal budget Thursday.

The budget currently calls for a $6.5million budget increase, which is expected to be paid for by taxpayers. The figure is expected to be 3.8 per cent higher than last year.

City councillorswill be going through the budget line by line at city hall with the opportunity to recommend and implement changes throughout the process.

Budget documents reveal the city is expected to receive less revenue from non-tax sources this year, including its financial share from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation Thunder Bay Casino.

The city has said previously it will get fewer funds from provincial transfer payments in 2016.

The annual municipal budget is currently slated to be just under $240 million.
