It will be a few more months before residents can move into the new addition to Hogarth-Riverview Manor in Thunder Bay.

Construction on the new 416 bed seniors' facility will take two months longer than projected. It was originally scheduled to open in October.

The president and CEO of St. Joseph's Care Group said a number of small construction issues caused the delay.

Tracy Buckler said it means some residents at Grandview Lodge may not move into Hogarth-Riverview until February of next year.

"It's a bit of a domino effect," she said.

"We did change the sequence, however. So we will be moving our Hogarth Riverview Manor residents in first, so that we can hopefully not delay the renovations that are required."

The first resident should be able to move in this December, Buckler added.

Moving in the winter isn't the best of timing, and poses some additional challenges, but Buckler said they can make it work in spite of those challenges.

Letters have gone out to families to inform them of the delay.

The move will start first for Hogarth-Riverview Manor residents, in the older section of the building, where there will be renovations. Then Dawson Court and Grandview Lodge residents will follow.

There are about 300 people among all three homes, but not all will move into new facility.

Once the Hogarth-Riverview facility has been completed, a total of 544 beds will be available.
