Thunder Bay police charge five in jail riot

Charges include hostage-taking, rioting, assault peace officer, assault with a weapon, threats to cause bodily harm, and mischief.

The Thunder Bay Police Service Criminal Investigations Branch has charged five men in connection with theDec.7, 2015 hostage-takingincident at the Thunder Bay District Jail.

Police have charged 35-year-oldJeffrey Kakegamic with hostage-taking, rioting, assault peace officer, assault with a weapon, threats to cause bodily harm, and mischief under $5,000.

Twenty-three-year-oldJeffrey Achneepineskumis charged with hostage-taking, rioting, threats to kill, assault with a weapon and mischief over $5,000.

Justin Beaver, 24,and Carl Rae, 33, are bothcharged with rioting and hostage taking.

Police say they will also charge asixth man in relation to theincident as well. Thatmanwas released from custody prior to the completion of the police investigation.

Achneepineskumwill appear in court next on March 10. All others have been remanded until Feb.16 for video court.
